It's Halloween!

Alli and Makell enjoyed "The Howl" party up at Utah State as Hobo's! Great costumes, but I think they look just a little TOO CUTE!
Jake is a missionary again this year and poses with the Baba Yaga (Russian Witch) Statue. Happy Halloween from cold Russia!

Madi and Sara dressed up for a party at dance yesterday...
Mummies and a Hippie girl at ballet.
Today, they are all in costume for school and parties with friends tonight.

Madi's grey grandma hair turned out fantastic. We even sprayed a little on her eyebrows too.

A lovely Grandma Portrait

All the world needs is a little peace!

PUMPKIN CARVING - Yes!

Sunday evening was an extra happy time at our house getting ready for Halloween. I really had no idea how much Chris likes to carve pumpkins and he is an expert. He's not only fast, he likes carving pumpkins with intricate detail. If we would have had a contest - he would have taken first place.
I started carving with the girls this year and then Derek got into the spirit of the night.
While we were busy, Kayli was busy preparing a presentation for her internship.
Anyways, we ended up with five creatively carved pumpkins to display on our front porch on Halloween Night. I can't wait!!

I love the smell of Jack-o-lanterns burning on HALLOWEEN!

Wicked Ward Spook~tacular Social

Decorations along the back deck of the Burt's yard brought the Halloween theme to life. Soups, Chili, Rolls, Drinks and Desserts were all made by everyone. The weather couldn't have been any better; record warm temperatures for fall.
All dressed in costume, these girls were ready to party! Brianna in Jail, Kieko and Sara as Hippies, and Lindsey and Madi as BYU Soccer Players. Notice the ghost baby in the background...
His eyes would light up red as someone walked by...pretty freaky!
Games for the kids surrounded the perimeter of the yard.
Layla was a pretty scary cheerleader with her Orange glow-in-the dark fangs!
Sitting at the kids table isn't so bad when you have friends like these!
Derek was randomly chosen to participate in the adult games.
He gave his best efforts to try and shake the ping pong balls out of the box strapped to his back.
 Victory!! We have a winner!
Bring on the prizes!

* finger painting *

After retrieving our long lost paints from the basement, Sara went to work. I was grateful that she took this little project outside.
Here are some good ideas of painting items from nature.  I'm sure you've never seen a turquoise leaf before...
As she came inside to wash her hands, I had to get a good picture of this sunny faced happy girl, messy hands and all!

More Fall Break Fun in Colorado - Steamboat Springs

We stayed the next two nights in Steamboat Springs about 3 hours from Estes Park. We went to the hot springs, shopping downtown, swimming at the hotel with hot tub and steam room, hiked to a beautiful waterfall and made smores at the park. We had the nicest weather and enjoyed being outside so much. Even though this trip was a lot of driving,18 hours over 4 days, we still had a great time.

It seemed that we just couldn't get away from the Overlook. One of the hikes in Steamboat Springs was called Overlook Trail. Hmmmmm....

I loved having this girl with us and hearing all of her college stories. Alli is so fun to have around...she makes us all laugh so hard.

Three darling girls with Fish Lake Falls in the background.

We went on this hike during the spring a few years ago.
Once a dancer...always a dancer!

Of course, we had to hike to the top of Fish Lake Falls...through a small steep trail. It was worth it with the autumn colors all around!
The top of the waterfall right before it plunges down over the steep cliff.
Colorado has some beautiful hikes!
Late night runs to Starbucks for the vanilla cake pops and vanilla bean caramel smoothies made everyone smile.
Most of Saturday afternoon was spent at
Strawberry Park Hot Springs.
These two challenged each other to jump into the cold river off the side of the hot pools.
After a few jumps, (I don't know how they did this more than once) they wanted to jump up for a picture. Remember, the water beneath them is freezing mountain river water. Brrrrr!

Ahhh, time to warm up in the 104 degree bath pool.

Alli takes the family selfie!

This is the closest Sara got to riding a horse this trip. Her desire was to go riding while we were here. When Derek checked into it, they said they weren't able to go because it is hunting season right now.
The girls were thrilled that their Dad ordered robes from the front desk for them to wear to the pool and steamroom...it's the simple things.
Our last night we went out late and made smores in the park right along the Yampa River. Derek thought ahead and packed the roasting sticks, lighter and charcoal.
It doesn't get much better than a nice evening together full of marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. :)
